Hong Kong's new Security of Payment (SOP) scheme benefits Subcontractors far more than Main Contractors. On Public Works projects, Main Contractors are usually paid reasonably well, and on time. That's not always the case for Subcontractors... But now, under SOP, Subcontractors can expect payment for their contracted works IN FULL and ON TIME. If not, Subcontractors can: ✔ Suspend or slow down their works, at the Contractor's risk ✔ Begin speedy (55 days) adjudication, with a high chance of success. There's one problem. And its a big one. Your sub-subcontractors can do the same to you. "Pay when paid" is history for them, as well. You have to pay them fairly and on time, whether or not you've been paid. There's much more.
